(2024 - now)

We Had an Abortion is a safer space for Polish women to share their abortion stories and pose for photos—openly or anonymously.
The project stems from my own abortion experience, which I am still processing. I want to create a judgment-free space where women can speak without stigma, perhaps forming a community that resists shame through shared testimony.

I’m particularly interested in the objects we keep from this experience—pregnancy tests, ultrasound photos—symbols of a pivotal moment. Exploring these mementos may make storytelling easier than confronting the entire experience at once.

“Did you wonder why you kept it? Would you show it to me? Can I photograph it?”

My goal in the project is to show the world that we have the right to experience abortion the way we want and how we can. And the diversity of our experiences corresponds to the diversity of our personalities and our economic, family and cultural situations. It is important to me that each story is told and presented the way the protagonist wants it to be, in her language, her traces, mementos or images. She has complete freedom in this and she will decide how and whether she wants to be presented in front of the camera.

As part of the project, she will be invited to a presentation on abortion stigma by the Dziewuchy Dziewuchom Foundation, because understanding these mechanisms helps reclaim autonomy.
